Love Drunk: Boy meets Girl

Share
Saturday Night's events began at 7:15pm. The hall was beautifully decorated by Jenny and some other irrelevant helpers (Myself included).  The pictures will obviously tell better stories about the deco. The evening was simple with everyone sitting around and chatting as usual as guys started to stroll in the venue.

With a theme like Love Drunk the place was decorated to suit the fantasies of a girl. Dim lights, soft music, candles, roses and all kind of other romantic things that mostly made the guys who walked in a little bit sleepy =p

Nonetheless it was fantastic. See some pictures, courtesy of Nancy Alexandra Ang, before I continue writing.

Anyway, you get the picture. At about 8pm or so, when we figured everyone had come, we moved into the hall where we sat down to listen to Shaun's commentary on some Love songs that were played. The first song was "The Wanderer" by the Jareds, and a Ryan. (The same dude who sang for 'Takeaway and Tunes')

Doesn't the stage just look huge in this picture? =P

Shaun used this song as an example what some people think of love. The song is about a guy who wanders around from girl to girl. When he is done with the girl, he finds another one. Some people think this is love. He also gave some very valid reasons why this was not how love should be.

Next song, we had Joelle, sing 'Obsessed,' by Beyonce I think. Not my personal favorite song, and I don't think it was her's either. But still, she did what she had too.

This song basically painted the picture of a lover who is obsessed with the other party. This was more like a one sided relationship, where one party does not really care as much about the other. This was also not the ideal relationship.

Finally, we watched a video, to illustrate the general pattern of boy girl relationships.

Quite an interesting video huh? Well in the video, the girl just jumps around from boy to boy, testing which is the best for her. Sort of. Shaun sat on the floor and gave reasons why none of these should be the way to do things.

He then told us how we should do things. How guys should do things, and how girls should do things. I won't mention just exactly what he said.. in case I get it slightly wrong. But yes. Come to Burn next week and discuss it if you wish to hear it first hand.

*Edit*
Below is a comment left by Shaun regarding the relationships

Relationship 1: Wanderer
If you want your heart broken, this is the guy/gal for u! PS, u get more than u bargained 4- diseases of the body and soul!!

Relationship 2: Obsessed: (by Mariah Carey, Bryan!)
Hey- get a life! He/she's just a human! Burps, farts, has smelly feet etc! At the end of the day, the problem is treating the 'idolised' one as an object to control, refusing to honour their freedom of choice (their freedom not to choose u!). Let it go, and move on already!

Relationship 3: Love Drunk
The video (tho funny) doesn't really match the lyrics- this is about a guy/gal relationship that was serious, then went seriously wrong! thing is, we never envisage a relationship breaking up when it's going well- and that's the danger- we end up giving away more than we should, only to regret it later. Guys were asked how many sexual partners they'd like their future wife to have had before them. Unanimous: None! Ru listening ladies?

So much more to be said, but I'll end with this- the relationship that Jesus intended is a man loving a woman so much he'll lay down his life to see her become all she could be. To treat her like the princess she is. This is a non-kiasu guy. He won't be pushing 4 sex outside marriage. He'll do stuff that's good for his lady, even refusing sex when she's offering! Now that's a real man!
The lady Jesus envisages is one who treats her man like her hero, her prince. Respects and honours him. Lets him know what a great guy he is. This helps lift him up into all he should be as a man.

Malaysia is in desperate need of more real men and real women. Not the kiasu type who do whatever suits them, even when it hurts others. Which ru? - Shaun Cox

Soon after, as usual, we went back out to sit, eat, talk, drink, and etc.
End of church, The Burn Style.
